I don't think so, if your still running the 6am-2pm slot. It seems they run their trucks at night. Leave Santa Rosa and head to Pico Rivera arriving there in the morning. They have a motel set up close by where after arriving at the terminal you have the rest of the day off to rest up. Then come back in the afternoon/evening and get your truck and head back home arriving before 10am the next morning. Not sure how this plays into the new rules coming in July about having 2 periods of 1am-5am off in your work week.

Today was my first day at my new job, I spent 5 hours filling in paperwork, watching videos on how to tie down the load, plus how to operate a forklift so now I am certified for that part. Not exactly sure where I will be going right now, there was talk of going up to Washington, Oregon and Northern part of California to pick up loads then deliver to customers. I am hoping this doesn't go all 48 and stays on the west coast. I go back in tomorrow and finish up my testing then get issued a hard hat and a nice fancy safety vest that says DOSS on it. Then I get to walk around with the foreman while he explains how everything works. So far I have 2 problems with this job. 1. The probationary period is 5 months long. ( no benefits till then ) 2. Nearly all of the trucks are Day Cabs with automatics. If I'm gonna be running all week long then I need a sleeper truck.

I've been driving for 33 years and all those trucks were real trucks with manual transmissions, not some pansy truck with an automatic.

I had to drive an automatic for 6 months, they are nice in LA traffic but not so much on the road especially on hills , they can't decide what gear to run in so they keep shifting back and forth. Plus you keep reaching for a gearshift that's not there for awhile.

I never knew semi trucks came with an auto trans. What's next, a cup holder in a dragster?

I'd sure hope they gave you a sleeper Allen, I don't see how they coukdnt for long distance runs

When I was doing the driving test the trainer kept snickering every time I would stop, the truck kept acting like it wanted to die so I would try and push down on the clutch but there wasn't one. I also heard from a few guys that drive automatic, it takes almost a full runway just to get up to speed, that will be fun in the traffic we have.

Well i haven't gotten a truck yet, everything is still working itself out, I guess I get to ride along first before they will let me go. Matt ( the VP ) said even with the 33+ years I have under my belt he has to act like I'm fresh out of school. Plus will take me a bit to learn their ways. Too much paperwork from what I see so far.

Since they are a LTL company they pick up and deliver stuff from all over. Someone calls into the office and they have something that needs shipping, the company asked them how much there is, what is the weight of the product and the length, then they give them a price and a delivery pickup time.

Yeah they do 0-60 in a week and a half.
No matter how much weight even bobtailing, they start out in 1st gear.
At least they did 10 years ago, that's when I had to drive one.

Hi Guys, finally ended up here after hanging at Dodge Truck World for all those years. Went to log in there yesterday and apparently it's dead. Sure wasn't much happening there for the last few years anyway. Been busy with life things, but hope to be around more now. Looks like a good place to be.

We have a lot going in here. Three camping GTG's per year. February we are in the Kern County high desert, June we are near the south entrance of Yosemite (next week actually) and finally at Pismo- Oceano Dunes. I hope you can make one sometime. We all have the best time at them.

The truck I drove today according to the dash indicator starts out in second.

Boy my dogs are barking, to much sitting around for the past 6.5 weeks. Today put in a nice 12 hour day and drove the entire day making 6 stops with help of a trainer. The trucks have a console called "People net" where you have to punch in your ID and password and it assigns that truck and route to you for that trip. The new electronic logs, no more paper logs. Not sure how the CHP checks your hours with that system. According to the trainer the last time he got pulled in for inspection, the inspector asked for his logbook and the trainer told him they run the electronic logs. The inspector said OK and went about his business.

We run people net too. You can bring up "review logs" on the screen if needed. I have been pulled in 3 times for inspection never been asked for logbook. Says electronic logs on door.

Ok Got a question for the group, Last night on the way home the engine light came on. I checked for a code and it showed P0236. Looking on the net it has something to do with a map sensor. Is it safe to drive the truck? Can't really afford a big bill right now with so many other major bills needed to be paid like Rent.
